Northwood Area Land Management Collaborative
Dinner with David Kittredge

July 21, 2010
Camp Wah-Tut-Ca in Northwood, NH

On Wednesday, July 21st, NALMC hosted a complimentary buffet-style dinner at Camp Wah-Tut-Ca with Guest Speaker David Kittredge, Professor and Extension Forester at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  38 NALMC enthusiasts, interested newcomers and a few of Professor Kittredge's students enjoyed a delicious meal and took part in some great discussions about future roles of NALMC within the larger community.

An email from David Kittredge

what a wonderful event you organized! thank you very much for inviting me to come.   it was exhilarating to be involved in a gathering with such spirit and motivation.    nalmc lives!
it was nice of you to welcome my students, too. they were quite excited and impressed.

i excitedly told paul catanzaro all about the nalmc mtg, and shared the images of the famous kiosk!

you have a great thing going there.    don't worry about the details of the state, management plans, or any of that other stuff.
did you notice how that never came up in the conversation last night?   my sense is:
nobody really cares that much.
instead, focus on unique and innovative ways to gather people, draw them together, exchange information, and be supportive. that's what i heard people saying last night!

indeed, becoming too "close" to state orgs or trying to wedge landowners into some state master plan i fear would be conterproductive.

thanks again!   and congratulations.
